Shine On
This morning as I headed to work it was still dark. As I drove into the center of town, I could see thousands of lights around the City. Most people were still asleep in their homes. But I also saw people on the streets, some of them out during all hours of the night, each with their own story. Warm and wearing nice clothes, I couldn’t help but reflect from my relative comfort in my car. Inside the thousands of homes in our neighborhoods are people who are the bright lights. They glow and make our community a better place with all that they do to make a difference.
That difference is in volunteering, giving, and taking action in a multitude of ways that make our region a better place to live. Their action also brings a sense of contribution, the satisfaction of helping, and the realization of the meaning of life, to the people who give their time and energy.
Perhaps you are one of those people. I thank you for caring and for giving.
The Community Foundation of Western Nevada is a place where hundreds of people bring their bright lights together to make a powerful spotlight of philanthropy and community leadership that amplifies our collective efforts. Sometimes called collective impact, we find we can do much more together than by working individually.
It is my hope that more people in the community will recognize the Community Foundation as a place where we can come together to brighten our community. We can do this by educating ourselves about the needs of people in our region, and then strategically combining our philanthropy with leadership in a manner that is effective in ways we could not previously imagine.
If you want to know more about our work, please give us a call. You are a bright light, and we’d like to get to know you. The next time you wake up early and see the lights of the City, think about combining your own bright light with ours to create a shining northern Nevada, for all of us now, and for our children’s futures.
