Renown Health: Community Collaborations Help Us Reach Shared Goals
Briefly By Sy Johnson, MBA, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Renown Health
Renown Health is honored to be one of the Community Foundation’s 15 Corporate Philanthropy Partners. Much like Renown, the Community Foundation is focused on making a difference in our community.
We are especially proud to support the Caregiver Support Initiative which helps current and future caregivers with both the challenges and rewards that come when taking care of a loved one. The informational booklet the Community Foundation has created is a critical resource - ensuring patients, their caregivers and medical providers are all working together to provide the best care possible.
Renown is - and has always been - committed to growing and serving our community. After more than 150 years, we continue to strengthen existing partnerships and forge new ones to ensure we are thinking about the community’s overall health and well-being, not just healthcare. That’s why we are excited to support taking the Caregiver Initiative to the next level. Renown Vice President of Advocacy and Community Partnership, Wendy Damonte, and Director of Member Health and Wellness, Chris Needham, will join the Community Foundation in welcoming numerous community organizations and businesses for a panel discussion on supporting employees who become caregivers.
As both the largest healthcare system and largest private employer in northern Nevada, we bring insights from all sides of the issue - using the lenses of care providers as well as employers and employees. As Reno’s only locally owned, locally governed not-for-profit healthcare system, we are dedicated to bettering this community. It is our home and we are passionate about giving back as we continue serve more than 1.9 million people across northern Nevada and northeast California.
In fiscal year 2016, we provided $97.6 million in contributions including funding for research, community initiatives and non-reimbursed healthcare services. All of our earnings and donations stay right here in the Truckee Meadows and are invested to bring new facilities, services and lifesaving technologies and treatments to our region. Because our income stays local, we are able to extend a helping hand when and where it’s needed most, providing many services that cannot pay for themselves - and might not exist otherwise. However, we cannot do it alone. We need the community’s help to do it.
