PRESS RELEASE: Community Foundation of Northern Nevada Affordable Housing Expansion Opens to New Residents This Month

The Village

RENO, Nev. – April 8, 2025 – The Village on Sage Street opens to new residents this month as another step forward in reducing the affordable housing crisis in Northern Nevada reaches an important milestone.

The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada expansion project was partially funded from a $31,500 affordable housing grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to help increase access to affordable housing.

The new 96-unit affordable housing expansion was recently completed and received its official certificate of occupancy in late February. A local artist was then commissioned to complete a mural inside the building to welcome new residents to the community.

“We are so excited to welcome new residents to the expansion of The Village on Sage Street,” said Community Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Eaton Dunkelberger. “We appreciate the support of local organizations, such as the Wells Fargo Foundation, for their commitment to increasing the availability of critical affordable housing options for Northern Nevadans.”

This unique facility was originally comprised of eight modular buildings with 216 small single-occupancy units for individuals that are at least 18 years of age earning minimum wage, or those with other low income.

The Village on Sage Street’s expansion project is increasing the capacity by nearly 50% for this important target group, providing 96 additional beds for residents. The location of this project is ideally situated adjacent to the existing village. Volunteers of America (VOA) will operate the village and is currently making the expansion units available to individuals on their affordable housing waitlist.

The completion of the village will provide a new foundation and stability for its future residents and contribute to the overall well-being of the entire Northern Nevada community.
