Getting to Okay
Karen Senger Chief Philanthropy Officer[/caption] Desiring a break from my self-isolation, I recently took a walk through the Wilbur D. May Arboretum at Rancho San Rafael Park. There I encountered five-year-old Jonathan and his three-year-old sister with their mom taking a stroll. Jonathan was excited to see me sitting on a bench and eagerly approached. His mom had to remind him not to get too close. She explained, “Kids have such a hard time understanding what’s going on right now.” Jonathan, added, with the sincere and simple wisdom that children possess, “There is a nasty germ and we have to be careful, but we’ll help each other and it will be okay.” Five-year-old Jonathan is absolutely right. We’ll help each other and it will be okay. Today’s global day of giving, #GivingTuesdayNow is a perfect opportunity to come together to help our communities. We can create a wave of generosity and engagement to support nonprofit organizations that are essential to our way of life.
It’s very simple. Make a gift today to one or more nonprofit organizations.
Most take donations through their website. Many are running special #GivingTuesdayNow campaigns and promoting them through social media. Any amount will help. If you can’t make a donation, that’s okay. Consider other ways you can help such as checking on a neighbor or family member who might be lonely during this time of social distancing. It’s the Community Foundation’s mission to connect people who care with causes that matter, and #GivingTuesdayNow is an easy and meaningful way for all of us around the world to unite through compassion and generosity. Five-year-old Jonathan gets it. Let’s help each other and make it okay.
