COVID-19 Relief Fund to Help Meet Needs of Front-Line Healthcare Workers.

The COVID-19 Relief Fund advisory committee will initially focus grants from the COVID-19 Relief Fund on meeting the needs of healthcare professionals in Washoe County. As the number of people infected rises, health care workers on the front line are working with those in mortal danger from COVID-19. In many cases, they are working long hours, isolating themselves from their own families, and dealing with the stress of treating infected people daily.  The Relief Fund will help them by providing support such as hotel rooms, meals, emergency childcare, counseling or other needs so they can stay safe, stay healthy, and stay on the job. Two representatives each from the City of Reno, City of Sparks, Washoe County and the Community Foundation of Western Nevada Board as well as a representative from the Reno-Sparks Chamber and EDAWN make up the Advisory Committee which chose the initial focus in a meeting on Tuesday, March 31st and will recommend the first distributions in the coming weeks. “The COVID -19 Relief Fund will give back to those who are working around the clock to provide care and control the virus in our community, and who are helping us to heal while placing themselves at great risk.  Support is intended to help these workers and their families as they deal with stress, anxiety, and exhaustion,” said Chris Askin, Community Foundation of Western Nevada President and CEO. The United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra has set up The United Way Emergency Assistance Fund to support nonprofits that offer basic assistance and human services to individuals and families.
