Connecting Business and People to Build Community
The Community Foundation’s ability to leverage 20 years’ grantmaking experience and interwoven connections into initiatives is made possible through the support of our 19 Corporate Philanthropy Partners. The Corporate Philanthropy Partners met on Thursday, and in preparation for the meeting, I attempted to clarify the extent of their contributions.
Thank you Amada Senior Care, Atlantis Casino and Resort, Charles Schwab Bank, Chase International, CMG Financial, Dickson Realty, EDAWN, Estipona Group, International Test Solutions, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Nature’s Bakery, Nevada Gold Mines, NV Energy, PBS Reno, Raley’s, Renown Health, Switch, and Wells Fargo. Your affiliation is enabling the realization of our vision - a collaborative, community-driven way to address our region’s unmet needs. Community Foundation initiatives are locally focused, led by people who not only care about the issues but who have been personally affected.
The Corporate Philanthropy Partners’ involvement has greatly expanded our reach, our connections, and our ability to address community issues with much more than money. The Corporate Philanthropy Partners require strategies that will truly result in improvements. Further, the work made possible through the Partnership isn’t “a one and done” approach but is work that builds year over year with measurements and annual data reporting. Truly, the support from these businesses has helped thousands of Nevadans and their families improve the quality of their lives and we’ve only just begun.
The Community Foundation is also connected in a personal way to households across the region, through our Legacy Society. I’m sad to share that one of our Legacy Society members, Tommy Livoti, passed away last week. Tommy was well-known in Carson City for his generosity, particularly to his church and to Catholic education. We have been privileged to work with Tommy on his annual charitable giving, and now have the honor to carry-out his legacy plans. Tommy was pleased that students in need will be given scholarships for a quality education and his fund will also provide for housing for clergy. Tommy was all heart, and we will share more about his story in a few months.
The Community Foundation work is broad and connected through varied roles in the region. It is difficult to convey all we do to strengthen the community and encourage philanthropy. But I love to try! If you are part of a civic group, professional association, or social club, Community Foundation staff would love to present to your group about aspects of our work that are of interest to you. Please help us connect with more people and causes in our community. And please join with me in thanking the Corporate Philanthropy Partners, and generous people like Tommy. Together, we are strengthening our community through philanthropy and leadership by connecting people who care with causes that matter.
